Translators/Translations Wanted

We’ve been attracting a lot of international attention with WPhone, including some gracious translation efforts (Google translation) to translate the plugin’s strings into Russian by the Lecactus folks. (It also appears as if these folks have given a go at making WPhone work in Japanese/UTF8. Google’s attempt at translating the page is available here.)

What we would really love would be for some similarly gifted and motivated hackers to contribute their linguistic skills to translating WPhone into other languages, particularly German, Spanish and Polish, as those seem to be some of the more common languages that I see showing up in trackbacks and WPhone-related Google Blog Searches.

If you’re interested in lending a hand, getting your translations distributed with the official plugin and getting credit from us, please leave a comment on this post or over in the forums.

Thanks!

EDIT:

If you’d like to help, check out the WordPress Codex for details on how to use the localization technology and then have at the included localization file that comes with WPhone.

And as always, we’re looking for feedback on the plugin, so if you find something that isn’t easy to translate into your language, let us know and we’ll try to make it better!

  2. Viper007Bond November 15, 2007

oreixa: go ahead and grab the translation file included with the plugin and have at it. See this link for details: http://codex.wordpress.org/Translating_WordPress#Translation_Tools

    It applies to our plugin.

I am writing the italian translation…

  4. lucacicca November 15, 2007

Doug, you can find here my italian localisation (files .mo and .po):

    WPhone in italiano

  5. chris November 15, 2007

could get the French version done asap…

  6. Jens November 15, 2007

Since I like it, I would try the German version.

  7. Stephane Daury November 15, 2007

@chris: the french version is already bundled in version 1.4.1, but do feel free to modify it and submit updates, or takeover its maintenance if you are interested. I translated it myself (was born in France), but I’ll readily admit I’m far from the best translator, especially when it comes to tech stuff. I did base my translation on the fr_FR version of WP though.

@others: thank you all for your potential help. It is greatly appreciated, and will make WPhone that much better. :)

  8. Valentina November 16, 2007

    Hi

I’d like to translate it into German.

@Jens: Wir könnten uns die Arbeit auch teilen, oder die Arbeit vom anderen jeweils gegenlesen.

  9. Valentina November 16, 2007

    Hi

    here is my German translation:

    WPhone German localization

  10. Stephane Daury November 16, 2007

@chris: I had not named the French files properly in 1.4.1. It’ll be fixed in 1.4.2. You can rename them to wphone-fr_FR to make them work.

@lucacicca and @Valentina: we’ve added your contributions to the dev branch. Please do let us know if it’s not working, if you have a chance to try.

  21. Bruno Luiz November 30, 2007

    Hi!

    I’m back… I read this, and i have a little question:

I need only translate the localization file?

Example: I have to translate only “template.po” and after rename it to wphone-pt_BR.mo and convert this to wphone-pt_BR.po? I don’t have to translate other files at the folder “includes”?

  22. Bruno Luiz November 30, 2007

    Hi! I’m back.

I have one question: I only have to create one localization file with the portuguese brazilian language?

  23. Stephane Daury December 1, 2007

@Bruno: yes indeed, it’s just the one file (template.po). It contains all the strings we use in the plugin.
